Like Britain's James Toseland, Australia's Chris Vermeulen will be retuning to the World Superbike championship next year. Currently joint tenth in the MotoGP standings, Suzuki rider Vermeulen has been confirmed as a Kawasaki rider for 2010.
Having endured a frustrating season this year, Vermeulen's return to World Superbikes was revealed by Kawasaki on Monday. "The Kawasaki World Superbike team structure has evolved well in this, its first year, being run by Paul Bird and his experienced crew," explained Steve Guttridge, the European Race Planning Manager for the team.

"For next year, we realise that we need to make another step forward to be competitive at WSB level and we believe Chris could be the key to this. It's an understatement to say we are looking forward to next season now - we just can't wait!"
"I know Paul Bird from my time racing in the UK and I know that he runs a great outfit," Vermeulen added. "Of course, with the language barrier not being an issue, it can only be yet another positive aspect of the move to Kawasaki in WSB.
"It is really hard to say until I actually get a chance to ride the bike but, as a racer, my first goal is always to try and win races; I think we should start out with the aim of finishing inside the top five at every race and then see where we can go from there."
