Lorenzo: What a day!

After converting pole position into a win, it was a fantastic achievement for Jorge Lorenzo as the Spaniard won the Portuguese Grand Prix on Sunday. From a championship point of view, the success was made all the more sweeter for Jorge as team-mate Valentino Rossi finished three places further back.

With Lorenzo controlling proceedings and Rossi some 23 seconds behind, strong races from Ducati's Casey Stoner and Honda's Dani Pedrosa confirmed that the second Yamaha finished in fourth place.

"What a day!" exclaimed delighted winner Lorenzo. "I'm so happy to win here again, at the same track where I won my first MotoGP race last year; I worked so hard in the break on my fitness with my father and maybe that's given me a little bit of extra speed - I certainly felt so strong this weekend and it's great to win like this after being top in every session as well [sic]."

As a result, Rossi's championship lead over Lorenzo is reduced from 30 to 18 points with only a trio of races still to run. "The championship is closer now - it's still not easy but we have nothing to lose!" Jorge continued. "I'm proud that we have won the team title and I want to say thanks and congratulations to everyone; I liked my leathers and helmet a lot this weekend and wanted to celebrate Neil Armstrong and his landing on the moon, so that is why I did the 'moonwalk show' after the race!"
