Preparation key to keeping third, says Pedrosa

29 September 2009

With only four races still to run in 2009, Dani Pedrosa's task of holding onto third overall in the championship will be made all the more difficult this weekend as Casey Stoner returns. The Spaniard is targeting an effective performance from the moment practice begins in Portugal.

With Stoner having missed three races due to illness, Pedrosa managed to sneak ahead by seven points as Estoril's Grand Prix approaches. "It's been quite a long break since the last race and I really enjoyed it, combining time to relax as well as taking the opportunity to put in some good training," said Dani.

Although the Repsol Honda rider has jumped ahead of the Australian, Stoner still stands a very realistic chance of retaking the third spot, despite his recent absence. "We need to be very focused from the first practice on Friday to prepare the bike as much a possible for this race," Pedrosa stressed. "We'll see how the weather is compared to last year when we raced in April."

Spain's Pedrosa currently holds the 'best of the rest' place behind the Yamaha duo with 157 points to his name, comparing to Stoner's 150. Andrea Dovizioso, team-mate to Pedrosa, also remains in touch for third on 136 points with Colin Edwards a further 13 in arrears.
