The condition of 2007 Champion Casey Stoner continues to improve as the Australian's recuperation progresses in his home country. The Ducati rider has missed the last three races although, with four events still to run, Estoril on 4 October will be the start of the quest to claim third overall in the 2009 championship.

Having given up on his title chase when doctors advised the Southport rider to take a break, Stoner missed the Grands Prix of Brno, Indianapolis and Misano, with Dani Pedrosa's Honda finally moving up into third after the race at the latter.
Stoner, however - despite his recent absence - lies only seven points in the wake of the Spaniard is now preparing to rejoin the fray.
"I feel I'm getting better up here and my appetite has really come back," Casey told Northern Territory News 'down under'. "We caught lots of fish, saw huge crocs and amazing birdlife. It was just like I expected Top End barra fishing to be."
