Pedrosa up to third in championship

With Casey Stoner expected to return in Portugal next time out, the Australian still has almost a full month of recuperation time remaining from the illness which has seen the Ducati rider miss the last three races. Benefitting from his absence, however, has been Dani Pedrosa as the Honda man slips into third in the overall standings.

Having suffered a damaging pre-season testing accident in Qatar on top of his German Grand Prix shunt of last season, much of Pedrosa's own season has been marked by injury although the Spaniard finally reached the 'best of the rest' spot behind the Yamaha riders on Sunday.

"A podium finish is a good result for us and I think it fulfilled our potential here this weekend," Dani said after the race at Misano. "I made a good start and pushed to the maximum in the opening laps to stay ahead of the others; I was riding really hard and getting quicker every lap, which allowed me to keep in front for quite a long time.

"Third is okay here and there was no way I could follow the leaders' rhythm, so I'm reasonably satisfied. I've moved into third in the championship but, with Casey not riding here, it's not an even situation so I'm not too concerned about that. This weekend I also re-signed with Honda and I'm very happy about that; they know my potential very well and I know their potential too - I'm sure we can work well together into the future."
