The formation continued at Misano on Friday as Dani Pedrosa finished third to Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo in first practice ahead of Sunday's San Marino Grand Prix. Despite being in the top three and ahead of his team-mate, though, Spaniard Pedrosa wound up over seven tenths of a second slower than Rossi.
With the worrying gap proving that Yamaha are favourites for victory in Italy, Barcelona's Pedrosa has his own target of overhauling the absent Casey Stoner for third in the championship before the Australian's return in Portugal next time out.
"My pace was quite good during this first session and I'm sure there's still more to come tomorrow," a positive Dani commented. "We spent some time testing the Bridgestone tyre options and working on general setup today and I'm reasonably happy with how it went for most of the session.
"It was very hot out there and I think the temperature is due to fall later in the weekend so we'll have to be prepared to adapt our settings for that. We can improve further, I think, because on my last run out we had a small problem with the radiator cap which broke and spilt some water on my hands, so I lost the final run and wasn't able to improve my lap time at the end of the session."
