I want to forget Indy, says Rossi

01 September 2009

Valentino Rossi is keen to put his bad Indianapolis result behind him as the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano approaches. The championship returns to Europe this weekend after a poor race for Rossi in the United States which saw the championship leader's advantage halved after falling from his bike.

With a rare mistake for Rossi having cost the Italian a chance for victory at Indy, the reigning Champion takes a 25-point lead to Misano with team-mate Jorge Lorenzo his closest challenger. "I'm glad we don't have long until the next race because I quickly want to forget the mistake of Indianapolis!" Rossi laughed.

"Last year at Misano was incredible; to win in front of all my fans and so close to home was a great emotion and after missing out in Mugello this year we are really focused on trying to get the best result there. As usual, my fan club will make a big party there so I hope that we can give them a good show - it's always great to ride at home."

The 30-year-old may still hold a healthy lead with five events to go in 2009 but is taking nothing for granted. "As we saw last weekend, anything can happen and the championship isn't over," he continued realistically. "We have to keep working at the maximum and just try to take as many points as we can each time."
