After a large accident on the first lap of the American Grand Prix last year, Jorge Lorenzo's heavy qualifying crash this season was his second in as many years in California although the Spaniard bravely rode on to claim a podium finish. After a fortnight's break, the field now prepares to make the annual journey to the Sachsenring.
The German round of the championship will be the ninth of the year although Lorenzo is the first to admit that his performances have never been on par for the Hohenstein venue. "Germany is one of the circuits where I've never done particularly well," said Lorenzo. "Infact, I've only had one podium there, in 2006 when I was third in 250cc. Last year it rained a lot and, unfortunately, I fell on the third lap so it wasn't a weekend to remember but I hope this one will be very different."

| Lorenzo has 142 points to Rossi's 151 with nine rounds to go |
Beaten by team-mate Rossi in the last three events, the Italian has now pulled out a lead of nine points. "Following my injuries in Laguna Seca, I am feeling a lot better after a week of rest but I won't be at 100 per cent this weekend," he admitted. "I have some pain in my foot when walking and also in my shoulder joint, so the first thing I will do when I get to Sachsenring is go to the Clinica Mobile!
"My aim, as ever this weekend, is to be on the podium and to try to get as many points as possible compared to the rivals that are in front of me."
