Rossi enjoying break between races

14 July 2009

Valentino Rossi admits that a standard break of a fortnight between the American and German Grands Prix has come as very welcome after a hectic back-to-back schedule placed the races at Assen and Laguna Seca only seven days apart. With more consecutive weekends now following, however, the Italian is ready for the challenge.

After finishing second to Dani Pedrosa's Honda in the States, Rossi extended his championship lead further over both Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo and Ducati's Casey Stoner, who has been suffering from a bizarre and unknown illness. "Thank goodness we've had some time to rest after the last two races because I was really quite tired after Laguna!" admitted Rossi.

"The next two races are back-to-back and, again, it will be very hard - it's also a very important stage of the championship, the halfway point. Sachsenring isn't one of my favourite tracks but I've had some great races there and generally it suits Yamaha well, which is good.

"We need another good result to keep our lead because our rivals are so strong and we can't afford to make any mistakes. Last year there was a lot of rain in Germany but we were infact able to take a great second place - I hope this year we can go one better."
