Onde 2000 pulls out of MotoGP

13 July 2009

Sete Gibernau's Onde 2000 Ducati team has made an announcement which states its instant departure from MotoGP. The team, which fielded just one bike for the Spaniard, has taken the decision to leave with immediate effect and will therefore not be seen either at the Sachsenring this weekend or for the remainder of the season.

Having been launched last year, the first appearance of Onde 2000 in MotoGP came in the 125cc category before moving straight up to the top 800cc class this season. The Ducati Satellite team will no longer be seen, however, after this week's verdict.

'Grupo Francisco Hernando will not complete the 2009 season,' reads a statement from the Spanish company behind the squad. 'The reasons for this termination is the world's crisis. The Group has decided to concentrate on its investments, focusing all its efforts upon its projects as a promoter and constructor.'

As a result, the comeback season of rider Sete Gibernau has been cut short. "I am the most surprised at this decision," admitted the 36-year-old. "Everybody in the team has fought to go forward with this project. On a personal level it was a big gamble but the project was reaching higher and higher goals with the passing of each race. It is a shame that, just as we were getting close to picking up the results that we were after, we have had to pull out."
