Dani Pedrosa refuses to become overexcited after his winning his first Grand Prix for over a year at Laguna Seca last weekend. The Catalan rider, who has tolerated a chain of crashes and bashes this year, is currently placed fourth in the championship and fifty-nine points behind leader and reigning Champion Valentino Rossi.
With Rossi, his Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo and Ducati's Casey Stoner battling for race wins and the championship lead all season thus far, Pedrosa has been forced to take a back row seat in the battle although, amazingly, is only 43 points behind Stoner and now 20 ahead of Repsol Honda team-mate Andrea Dovizioso.

"I am yet to heal fully, even though I am improving," 23-year-old Pedrosa said to Motosprint. "I've decided that I must not look too closely at the championship table - I prefer to go race-by-race, then we'll see; the truth is that I don't have much of a choice, I've already lost a lot compared to the points leaders."
With the championship seemingly out of touch, rumours circulating the paddock at Laguna Seca linked Jorge Lorenzo as a potential mover from Yamaha to Honda for next season, possibly to join Pedrosa. "I'm in the contract renewal phase," Dani added of his own career. "What counts for my future is for me to again discover my optimal physical condition and therefore be able to get back to riding and racing the way I think I'm able to."
