Stoner perplexed about sickness

03 July 2009

Casey Stoner continues to remain confused over illness which, intermittently, has been affecting him since the Catalan Grand Prix on 14 June. After feeling distinctively under the weather after both of the last two races plus at times between the events, the Australian heads to Laguna Seca with no real idea of the cause.

With a titanic championship scrap continuing between himself and Yamaha team-mates Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, Ducati rider Stoner knows more than anybody that good results are vital at all races in order to stay in the hunt; but with his current condition hampering him, the problem is hurting the Australian physiologically as well as physically.

With a holiday before Assen seemingly not entirely helping to put a stop to the 2007 Champion's current run of poor health, Stoner has admitted that he has never felt 'one-hundred per cent' since the Netherlands' race a fortnight ago.

"In sports, at all levels, there are tensions that run down to the stomach," MotoGP head doctor Claudio Macchiagodena explained to Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport. "From what I have seen, I do not think that this is a serious situation but it is clear that the effects of the symptoms could have more serious affects (in terms of the championship)."
