Nicky Hayden's trip to Laguna Seca this week marks the start of one of his most important weekends of the year. Currently languishing in fifteenth position overall in the standings, the Kentucky-born rider is hoping to leave a lasting impression after his first race on a Ducati in the USA.

Tenth in Barcelona and eighth at Assen were more respectable results for Hayden in comparison to his dismal start to the season, although the positions are still far below par for the 2006 World Champion who, like his predecessors at Ducati, is struggling to get to grips with the bike.
"We still have a lot of work to do but it has been nice to see a little progress over the last few weeks and at Laguna I really need to take another big step," he admitted. "I don't have any big plan or anything - it's not that easy! All I know to do is keep trying and working at it and hope it will come.
"This will be the first time my American fans get to see me on a Ducati so that will be cool because there are a lot of strong Ducati fans in the states. No predictions or anything, but we'll go full gas and see what happens."
