The balance has swung again at Yamaha as Jorge Lorenzo set the quickest lap time in front of the Dutch crowd at Assen. With the three men at the top of the standings all having scored the same number of points so far, the Spaniard was faster than Rossi by just over a tenth as Casey Stoner remained in close attendance.

With the grid already decided in favour of Rossi, Lorenzo's fastest warm-up time of 1.36.928 ensures that onlookers are promised a competitive race on Saturday afternoon. Behind the top three, Dani Pedrosa - still riding injured - impressed once again for Honda team-mate Andrea Dovizioso place both of team's bikes in the top five.

The Tech3 Yamaha squad are also showing more potential this weekend, as leading Briton James Toseland set the sixth fastest time with team-mate Colin Edwards seventh. Toseland's session ended prematurely, however, when the bike lowsided before the end of the 20-minutes session. Fortunately, James was not injured and will proceed to start the race from his qualifying position of ninth.

The 2009 Dutch Grand Prix will begin at 2pm local time at Assen (BST +1 / GMT +2). Full results and reaction will be available at GPUpdate.net.
