Mika Kallio was pleased to have gained a chance to test outside of a race weekend this week, when teams were given the opportunity to make use of the Circuit de Catalunya on Monday. Finn Kallio, who progressed to the main class after finishing third in the 250cc group last year, impressed on Monday by setting the fourth fastest time for the Premac Racing team.

Enjoying his first non-race weekend session since Qatar at the beginning of March, a best time of 1.42.637 placed Kallio in the fourth spot after circulating the Catalan track 98 times, equalled only by Ducati's Nicky Hayden. "Today it has been an important day for us," said Kallio after a session in which only Andrea Dovitzioso and the two Yamaha riders finished quicker. "Compare this to yesterday (Sunday race day) we have sensibly improved - this gives me a lot of trust for the rest of the season."

Having enjoyed a strong start to the year in 2009, the only Finnish rider in the field currently lies twelfth in the standings with 26 points to his name. "The championship started really well, with two eighth positions, but then things got worst," the 26-year-old continued.

"It has been a really positive session also because we have solved the problems encountered yesterday and the technical updates - most of all the new carbon fiber swingarm - gives me more confidence with the rear part of the bike, even if there are still some aspects that we have to improve. It has been a long weekend and now I need to go back home to Finland to relax and prepare, in the best way possible, for the Assen race."
