Stoner prepared to face difficulties

08 June 2009

Casey Stoner is all set to face the numerous challenges in front of him at the Grand Prix of Catalonia this weekend. Although the Australian won last time out at Mugello, the Ducati World Champion of 2007 is not letting complacency take a place in Spain.

The win in Italy, his second of the season, places Casey at the top of the championship although a four-point margin to Jorge Lorenzo is a slim one on a weekend where restraining the Spaniard at home will be a hard task. "This championship is extremely difficult and competitive and even a victory like the one at Mugello, wonderful as it was, needs to be put behind us so that we can turn our focus to the next race," said Stoner.

"Being leader of the championship at this stage means absolutely nothing. My rivals are very clever, mature and capable of winning races so we have to stay focused, do our best to be competing for the top step of the podium again and, if that's not possible, make sure we are bringing home the maximum number of points."

With a hyped-up Lorenzo vibrant in anticipation for this weekend's event, Stoner is less enthusiastic over the track. "Barcelona was one of my favourite circuits until they re-laid it," he explained. "Even though they put a completely new surface down a few years ago, it has never been the same as it was before and the fact they race F1 there hasn't helped the situation in terms of the bumps and potholes." Nevertheless, the 23-year-old does enjoy the configuration of the Circuit de Catalunya, above all the rapid final corners of the lap.
