Rossi ready for magic Mugello

28 May 2009

Valentino Rossi is prepared to attack for his second victory of the season and his eighth consecutive success at Mugello as the 30-year-old moves home to Italy this weekend. Reigning Champion Rossi, just one point behind championship leader Jorge Lorenzo, knows his strengths at the circuit should help take the Yamaha to a win on Sunday.

After four races of 2009, Urbino's Rossi is currently 2-1 down in race wins to Spanish team-mate Lorenzo but knows that Alex Barros' Italian Grand Prix victory of 2001 was the last time any man other than himself stood on the top step of the podium. "Racing at Mugello is something incredible for me, but every year it gets more difficult to keep my record going and seven wins in a row is already a lot!" Valentino laughed. "I do feel pressure going there, but at the same time it is always amazing and the fans give me an extra motivation that helps me to perform in a different way. I hope it's the same again this year because, after Le Mans, I really need a good result!"

Caught out by the weather in France two weekends ago, Rossi's Yamaha was forced to pit four times on an afternoon which saw him finish two laps down after wrong tyre choices, a fall and a pit lane speed penalty. "It was disappointing but everyone has the occasional bad day and that was ours," he continued. "Everything possible went wrong but hopefully that is all our bad luck for now and this time, at our home race, we will be back to our best.

"I always look forward to this race; it's very busy for me but I have so many amazing memories - let's hope to create some more this weekend!"
