Dani Pedrosa considered himself lucky to have had a decent amount of time on track at Le mans on Friday, as afternoon rain halfway through the first practice session hindered progress ahead of the French Grand Prix on Sunday. The Spaniard, who finished second at home in Spain two weeks ago, was fifth for the first session in France.
Barcelona's Pedrosa currently lies joint third in the championship with compatriot Jorge Lorenzo, but it hoping to overhaul the Yamaha rider this weekend. "It's a very different kind of circuit to the last race at Jerez, where I've testing a lot," said Dani, who is still recovering from various injuries. "Really today was about getting dialed into this track and beginning the setup process; my physical condition is getting better all the time and I can bend my knee a lot more now, I've almost got full movement. Still, I haven't been able to train physically at 100 per cent though, so my condition isn't perfect yet, but it's getting better all the time."
Although the field now has 15 minutes more of practice time in each session pre-qualifying (as in previous years), inclement weather does not assist any rider on a Friday. "I didn't ride much in the second half of the session today because it wasn't fully wet and we have a limit on wet tyres, so I didn't want to waste any," Pedrosa added. "Let's see what the weather brings tomorrow."
