Casey Stoner is hoping to retake the lead in the standings after the Le Mans race meeting this weekend. Having crawled back to the pit lane with technical problems in 2008, the Ducati World Champion of 2007 is hoping for a more respectable result from this year's French Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Australian is currently eleven points behind leader Valentino Rosso after one win a piece this season and a win also claimed by team-mate to Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo. "We're on the back of two races that have really put us to the test but we've come out of them with decent results," explained Stoner who, since his season-opening win in Qatar, has claimed a fourth and a third place.
"It is going to be a long, open season - we've seen that with three winners and three championship leaders from the first three races and the fact that there are four of us within just a few points at the top. There is no point making predictions, the important thing is to continue working well and making sure we pick up as many points as possible in these races, where we know it will be tough to come away with the ideal result."
