Pedrosa leads Saturday practice

It was Dani Pedrosa at the top of the timesheets after Jerez's first timed practice session on Saturday morning. The Repsol Honda rider jumped up from tenth on Friday to lead the way in a Spanish lockout in the top two places; Japan winner Jorge Lorenzo was second to his compatriot with Casey Stoner's Ducati third. Rossi finished seventh for Yamaha.

In conditions far more pleasant than those seen in Qatar or Japan, Spaniard Pedrosa - who won in Spain last year - was on top with a lap time of 1.39.442, improving on his Friday time by nearly two seconds. Lorenzo was more than within touching distance, though, just 54 thousandths of a second down on the Honda. Behind Stoner, in fourth, was de Puniet's LCR Honda with Dovizioso confirming two factory Hondas in the top five positions.

Colin Edwards was sixth ahead of Rossi - with the Italian over eight tenths slower than leader Pedrosa as he concentrated on setup work - with Capirossi, a rapid Melandri and Nicky Hayden improving to round out the ten; the American was at the top of the list for highest number of laps completed, with 23 to his name.

Elias and Gibernau were 12th and 14th for Spain with James Toseland only 15th, nine places behind his Tech3 Yamaha team-mate. With Takahashi's Team Scot Racing bike 16th, the two Pramac entries of Kallio and Canepa completed the practice classification.
