Dani Pedrosa was happy to be back out on track at Jerez after a pre-season testing accident in Qatar forced him to miss all later running in his home country before kickoff for the 2009 season. The Repsol Honda rider finished tenth in Friday's practice session and is hoping for more from qualifying on Saturday.
"It's a good feeling to be back in Europe and especially to be riding at Jerez again," Dani said after free practice. "It's only Friday but there are already a lot of fans out on the banking, so I know it's going to be another special weekend for the Spanish riders."
The leading hometown hero was Jorge Lorenzo, finishing the session fourth for Yamaha, with Sete Gibernau and Toni Elias 12th and 15th for Onde 2000 and Gresini Honda respectively. "The first session didn't go quite according to plan for us and I think we can go faster than this tomorrow," Pedrosa continued. "We had an issue with one of my bikes and our general machine setup still needs some work. The Bridgestone tyres seem to be working pretty well though, so setup will be the main issue for us tomorrow."
