Gibernau satisfied with return

Sete Gibernau was pleased with his first race back to MotoGP in Qatar, having been out of the series for the past two seasons. The Spaniard, who feared being able to make the full distance of the night race, was overjoyed to make up two positions from his grid spot and wind up inside the points, with 13th place.

"It was a hard race for us," the Spanish Francisco Hernando rider explained. "We didn't know if we could go the whole distance so I want to thank the team, as they did a great job and they really helped me a lot. I'm satisfied because, beforehand, I didn't think I would be able to finish the race and we even got some points so I couldn't ask for more!"

An added challenge for Sete on Sunday was physical pain, suffering the affects of an past shoulder injury during the race. Having experienced a big accident at the start of the 2006 Catalunya Grand Prix as well as his shoulder-damaging Portugal crash, Gibernau - a former title contender - looked to be heading into permanent retirement before announcing his return for this year.

"I can't say I was really comfortable on the bike, as I was really struggling with the pain," he admitted. "But I'm really happy to have got a result that was much better than expected. Ahead of the next race in Japan, I want to be at home and train a little bit - perhaps on one of my bikes - so that my physical condition improves further."
