The start of the 2009 season has been revitalised after organisers announced that the Qatar Grand Prix, cancelled on Sunday due to heavy and extremely unexpected rain, will be taking place on Monday.
With the season-opening night race originally scheduled to take place at 11pm local time, a delay followed by complete cancellation signalled a disappointing start to 2009. With the desert venue already drenched in water earlier on in the night, the 125cc and 250cc races were cut short in a bid to include the main event.
The race and new season will now begin at 9pm on Monday, with an extra warm-up session inserted into proceedings two and a half hours before, at 6:30pm; although rain in Qatar should be unexpected, after Sunday's happenings the riders will be praying that the track surface is dry.
