Stoner grabs first pole of 2009

Casey Stoner will start Sunday's Qatar Grand Prix from pole position. The former MotoGP champion dominated on Saturday evening and ended almost half a second ahead of all his competitors. Stoner will share the front row on Sunday with both Yamaha Racing riders Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo. Stoner's team-mate Nicky Hayden suffered from a hard crash and ended 16th.

Saturday´s qualifying session started with high hopes for Australian Casey Stoner. The Ducati rider topped the time sheets of every session in Qatar. Stoner topped the time sheets for most of the qualifying session.

With Stoner and the Yamaha riders completing the front row Andrea Dovizioso will start from fourth. The Italian will be joined by country fellow Loris Capirossi and Colin Edwards on the second row.

Injured Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa will have to start from fourteenth.
