2007 champion Casey Stoner has finished atop the timesheets as the final day of pre-season testing gets underway in Spain. By finishing first, the Australian will have boosted confidence levels which puts himself in good stead ahead of this afternoon's annual BMW M Award session, in which the fastest rider will walk away with a sports car.
Stoner's fastest morning time of 1.39.804 was just over three tenths of a second quicker than second man Jorge Lorenzo after the Spaniard was fastest on Saturday. It was the Ducati followed by the two Yamahas in the top three with Valentino Rossi third, while Capirossi and Dovizioso rounded out the five.
Chris Vermeulen was sixth for Suzuki ahead of Hayden and Marco Melandri; with Pedrosa's absence, there were still two Spaniards in the top ten as the returning Sete Gibernau delighted the local crowd to place ninth as former team-mate Colin Edwards was right behind him.
With the last pre-season test session over, the riders still have to contend with the qualifying simulation that is the M Award later in the afternoon, and one of them will be driving away from the circuit in a BMW 135i.
