Capirossi fastest on first day at Sepang

The MotoGP riders are back to work for the first day of testing in the new year. All the MotoGP teams travelled to Malaysia for a three-day test at Sepang. Rizla Suzuki rider Loris Capirossi topped the time sheets at the end of the first day of testing. The Italian was just ahead of Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi.

The weather conditions at Sepang were just perfect on Thursday. The three-day test at Sepang started well for the Suzuki MotoGP team as Loris Capirossi completed the fastest lap, which was 0.38s quicker than Rossi's race lap record set last October.

At Yamaha Valentino Rossi began his 2009 preparations on the team's M1 with stitches still in his left hand and foot after falling on a glass table at home earlier this week. But despite the stitches the reigning MotoGP champion completed 31 laps without any major problems and ended third in the time sheets. Team mate Jorge Lorenzo ended 10th completing 61 laps.

Tech 3 Yamaha's James Toseland crashed in the afternoon but fortunately for the Briton without any consequences. He will be looking forward for another day of testing on Friday.
