British GP to move to Silverstone

13 January 2009

Silverstone has today announced its acquisition of the British round of the championship from 2010 onwards.

The announcement was made after the signing of the deal between Silverstone and Dorna Sports, commercial rights holder for MotoGP. "The full Grand Prix circuit offers a combination of high speed straights and technical corners, presenting a real challenge to the riders," commented Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited.

The deal has been received with positive responses from both sides with Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, adding that "The venue has excellent facilities and a circuit with a great heritage, having held some superb MotoGP races in the 1970s and 80s."

Silverstone can now boast the fact that it will soon be holding MotoGP as well as World and British Superbike events, and will be hosting its first Grand Prix in the same year Formula One switches its own British event to current MotoGP venue Donington Park.
