Nicky Hayden finished Friday practice on top of the field at a wet Valencia circuit, having been the clear pace-setter in the morning session too.
Hayden finished Friday with a best lap of 1m45.777s to go less than a tenth of a second faster than Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo a further tenth down in third place.
Valentino Rossi recovered from a difficult first session to go fourth despite a lowside at the final corner from which he emerged unscathed. Casey Stoner finished fifth, recovering from his morning crash to go ahead of Dovizioso, de Puniet, Edwards and Nakano.
Toni Elias was another rider to crash in the session, coming off his Ducati early in the second practice session.
