Rossi beats Stoner to Indy pole

Valentino Rossi beat Casey Stoner to pole position at Indianapolis to set up another promising duel between the two title protagonists in tomorrow's race.

Rossi put in a lap of 1m40.776s to go less than 0.1s faster than the Ducati and beat him to pole and take only his second pole of the season. A late flying lap from Jorge Lorenzo secured his place on the first row in third.

Local hero Hayden ended up fourth ahead of Ben Spies and Randy de Puniet.
