West finishes wet first day on top

Anthony West finished a wet first day of practice at the Indianapolis Moto Speedway on top of the field. West demonstrated his wet weather skills to brave conditions, which deteriorated as the day went on.

Hardly anyone was able to improve on their times in the second session as conditions were even wetter so de Angelis finished up second ahead of Casey Stoner who showed no after-effects from his morning crash.

Dovizioso ended up fourth ahead of Hopkins and Vermeuleen. Valentino Rossi ended eleventh, but looked more comfortable on track in the second session, despite going off track to the banked first oval corner, not used by Moto GP.
