Stoner stays top on day one

18 July 2008

Casey Stoner continued to dominate Moto GP proceedings as he finished Friday's second practice session comfortably on top, with a new lap record under his belt.

Stoner was the fastest rider in both today's sessions, building on his victories in the last three races. Stoner set his fastest lap in the afternoon - 1m21.826s, 0.149s better than the previous circuit record that he had already broken in the morning session.

Stoner ended the day 0.8s ahead of the next fastest rider, Repsol Honda's Nicky Hayden, winner at Laguna Seca in 2005 and 2006. Valentino Rossi ended the day up third fastest, failing to improve on his morning time in the afternoon session.

Alex de Angelis finished the day fourth ahead of Chris Vermeulen and Shinya Nakano. Colin Edwards, Andrea Dovizioso, Toni Elias and Loris Capirossi rounded off the top ten.
