Casey Stoner has opened the MotoGP action at Donington with a fastest time in the first free practice session. Stoner was over half a second ahead of De Angelis and Edwards. Valentino Rossi ended in eighth position.

The first free pratice session at Donington got under way at 10.00am under clouded skies. Ducati rider Casey Stoner showed he is well on the pace at the British track and in order to play part in the F1 title challenge the Australian will have to score at least a podium this Sunday.

James Toseland enjoyed the support from the local fans at Donington. The Tech 3 Yamaha rider ended seventh as he completed 27 laps in the one-hour session.
