Stoner scores first pole of the season

Casey Stoner will start Sunday's Gran Premi de Catalunya from pole position. It is the first time since the San Marino Grand Prix back in September 2007 that the Australian completed the fastest lap in qualifying. Repsol Honda riders Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden will join stoner on the front row.

The Spanish fans at Circuit de Catalunya faced an interesting qualifying session on Saturday afternoon. Even though they had to miss country fellow Jorge Lorenzo on track they saw Dani Pedrosa being the fastest man on track in the opening minutes.

Fifteen minutes into the session saw Loris Capirossi improve the fastest time of the day. Not much later though Casey Stoner showed his strong pace in Spain as he completed the fastest lap of the day.

In the final 15 minutes the MotoGP riders came out on qualifying rubber. But while many try to set the fastest time for pole position it was Casey Stoner was again completing the fastest lap.
