Rossi takes pole at Mugello

31 May 2008

Valentino Rossi took pole position for tomorrow's Italian Grand Prix at Mugello with a hot lap of 1m48.130s, lining up for an attempt to make it a seventh straight home win. Rossi's pole lap smashed the Mugello record by 0.8s.

Rossi's first pole of the season came a tenth ahead of morning pace setter Dani Pedrosa and Loris Capirossi pulling out a strong lap to take third on his Suzuki. Reigning champion Casey Stoner qualified fourth.

Colin Edwards and compatriot Nicky Hayden ended up fifth and sixth ahead of the still injured Jorge Lorenzo.

Toseland, Nakano and de Angelis rounded off the top ten.
