Rossi storms to 90th victory

18 May 2008

Valentino Rossi stormed to his 90th Grand Prix victory at Le Mans leaing team mate Jorge Lorenzo and Colin Edwards home to the chequered flag. The Italian rider's second straight win takes him into the lead of the championship.

Rossi's 90th win equals Ange Nieto's record. He had started from the second row but took the lead early and never looked back. Rossi's Yamaha team mate Lorenzo clawed his way up to second from fifth, beating morning pace-setter Colin Edwards.

Dani Pedrosa saw his championship lead disappear as he dropped from pole to fourth by the end of the race. Vermeulen finished fifth ahead of Dovizioso, Capirossi and Hayden. Nakano and de Puniet rounded off the top ten.

Casey Stoner's hopes of a strong finish were shot when his bike broke down on lap 20. He pushed it himself almost the entire length of the lap to switch to his spare bike, but to no avail.
