Lorenzo takes dominant third pole

Rookie Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo took a dominant pole position at Estoril, to make it three poles out of three qualifying sessions since he joined the Moto GP series. Lorenzo smashed the Estoril lap record on his way to pole ahead of Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi.

Pedrosa ended up 0.233s adrift of Lorenzo, with Rossi a further 0.251s behind. Nicky Hayden was fourth ahead of Colin Edwards and James Toseland.

Andrea Dovizioso qualified seventh while Randy de Puniet, Casey Stoner and John Hopkins rounded off the top ten, spread by a total of 1.6s from Lorenzo's pole time.
