Lorenzo fastest at Jerez

Jorge Lorenzo completed the fastest lap of the day at the first day of action at Jerez. The Spaniard was ahead of Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards. Casey Stoner finished sixth.

The Yamaha bikes showed clearly their potential at Jerez on Friday. The Yamaha riders topped the time sheets for most of the session and finished first, second and third in the end. Former champion Nicky Hayden ended fourth.

During this winter's test session at Jerez Ducati rider Casey Stoner was always well on the pace in Jerez but on Friday he was about half a second of the pace. On Saturday the MotoGP riders continue their first European Grand Prix of the season at 10.00am local time.
