Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo completed the fastest lap on the second day of testing in the night of Qatar. For most of the day James Toseland topped the time sheets but in the final lap of the day Lorenzo set a 1.54.552 on the clocks, only four hundredths of a second faster than Toseland. De Puniet was third.

Behind the top three of the day were Colin Edwards (Tech 3 Yamaha) and world champion Casey Stoner (Ducati). Stoner completed only 31 laps as he crashed with his bike, ending his day earlier than expected. Stoner was fortunately unharmed though.

Stoner wasn't the only one falling off his bike. Marco Melandri, Shinya Nakano and Sylvain Guintoli also crashed. All but Guintoli were fine though. The Frenchman complaint about a bit of pain in his arm after his crash but doctors on track gave him permission to continue testing on Friday night.

According to the drivers the crashes weren't caused by the light, but because of the temperatures going down quickly in the evening giving the Michelin and Bridgestone tyres less grip at the Losail track.

Next week will see the 2008 MotoGP world championship start on Friday in Qatar with a free practice session.
