Pedrosa beats Stoner to Valencia win

04 November 2007

Dani Pedrosa delighted his home fans this afternoon taking victory at Valencia ahead of new World Champion Casey Stoner. The win ensures Pedrosa snatches second place in the championship from Valentino Rossi, who was unable to finish the race due to a technical problem.

Pedrosa started from pole, but Stoner took the lead in the early stages. The Repsol Honda rider fought back to switch positions while John Hopkins took third and a podium for Rizla Suzuki in his final ride for the team.

Rossi ends up third in the championship for the first time in his career as he retired on lap 20 with bike problems. Until then he had fought up from 17th to 14th despite fractured bones in his right hand.

Melandri finished fourth ahead of Capirossi, Vermeuelen, Barros, Hayden, de Puniet and Elias.
