Tech 3 Yamaha rider Sylvain Guintoli surprised a few when the Frenchman completed the fastest lap in the final seconds of Saturday's free practice session. In Friday's second free practice Guintoli was already on the pace, but not many would have expected him to battle with Stoner for P1 on the time sheets. Guintoli was almost half a second faster than Stoner and Pedrosa.

In the first part of Saturday's free practice session Stoner, Rossi, Melandri and Barros were found on top of the time sheets. Eight minutes into the session saw Stoner complete the fastest lap at 1.33.383.

Halfway into the session the Spanish fans in Valencia saw Marco Melandri improve the fastest time of the day. He completed his fastest lap in 1.33.240. Not much later though Alex Barrows pushed Melandri down to P2 as the Brazilian's time was one thousand of a second faster.

It was Stoner who not much later completed another fastest lap and he seemed to end the final free practice session of the season on P1. In the final seconds though Guintoli completed his fastest lap with Dunlop qualifying tyres in 1.32.670 and was almost half a second faster than Casey Stoner's fastest time.

It promises to be an interesting qualifying session later today.
