Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa will start Sunday's Australian Grand Prix from pole position. The Spaniard set the fastest lap time in the final minutes at 1m29.201 and was just over two tenths of a second faster than Valentino Rossi. The duo will be joined on the front row by Casey Stoner.

Pedrosa stormed to pole in the final minutes of the session to oust Valentino Rossi. Both the Italaian and Casey Stoner tried to get one extra lap in for another shot at pole, but both ran out of time.

Nicky Hayden crowned a good day for Repsol Honda in fourth ahead of Capirossi in fifth. Randy de Puniet ended in sixth after it looked like he might be fighting for the front row earlier in the session.

Barros ended seventh ahead of Nakano, Guintoli and West.
