Stoner dominates first day at home soil

Casey Stoner was the fastest rider on his home track at Philip Island on Friday. The Australian looked strong and confident even though he had a light crashed at the end of today's second free practice session. Stoner was followed by Marco Melandri and Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi.

The second free practice session got underway on Friday afternoon under an overcast sky. The track was slightly faster than this morning, and all riders, except Stoner, were able to improve their times that were set in the morning.
