
Repsol rider Dani Pedrosa was the fastest rider in Japan in both free practice sessions on Friday. The Spaniard completed his fastest time in 1m47.865 and was over four tenths of a second fastesr than Randy de Puniet. Marco Melandri ended third.
The Japanese Grand Prix weekend can be a weekend that will honour a new MotoGP champion. When Casey Stoner finishes ahead of his main rival Valentino Rossi he will claim the 2007 MotoGP Championship. On Friday Stoner was six tenths of a second slower than fastest man Pedrosa, while Valentino Rossi ended 14th in Friday's second free practice session.
Loris Capirossi had a difficult session. He went off track for a moment and set the seventh time. Reigning world champion Nicky Hayden also went off today. The American enjoyed a great race in Portugal last week, but for now he didn't get much further than 9th place in free practice.
Japanese rider Kousuke Akiyoshi surprised a few. Suzuki's third rider at Motegi set a sixth time. He will enjoy only his third MotoGP race on Sunday.
