Stoner moves in on title with Misano win

02 September 2007

Casey Stoner moved one step closer to winning the world championship after taking victory by four seconds in today's Grand Prix at Misano. It is the Ducati rider's eighth win this season and extends his championship lead to 85 points.

Starting from pole, Stoner controlled the race while title rival Valentino Rossi retired early on with engine problems. The other two places on the podium were taken by Rizla Suzuki riders Chris Vermeulen and John Hopkins.

Repsol Honda's qualifying promise was undone on the first lap as Pedrosa collided with de Puniet and Hayden had to take avoiding action.

Marco Melandri ended up fourth after his eventful weekend returning from injury.
