Melandri impressive on comeback

Marco Melandri set a surprise pace in the opening practice for this weekend's MotoGP event at a very wet Misano. The Honda Gresini rider is back on form after two weeks of recuperation from neck and ankle injuries. He clocked a best lap of 1m46.948s, 1.684s ahead of Valentino Rossi. 

Championship leader Casey Stoner was 0.2s behind Valentino Rossi in third with Loris Capirossi third. Colin Edwards and Nicky Hayden rounded off the top six. 

The second practice session of three today, gets underway at 13.50 local time.
