Casey Stoner was fastest in warm-up this morning at Laguna Seca in preparation for this afternoon's race.  The pole-sitter clocked a time that was faster than his qualifying effort and almost half a second quicker than second fastest Chris Vermeulen, who will also  be starting today's race from the front row.

Local boy John Hopkins was third fastest ahead of  Valentino Rossi and Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa, who is starting second in today's race. Loris Capirossi was sixth fastest in front of the two Americans of Colin Edwards and Roger Lee Hayden. Alex Barros and Randy de Puniet completed the top ten.
