Stoner makes it three out of three

Casey Stoner dominated the last practice session at Laguna Seca, going fastest by almost four tenths over Chris Vermeulen with a time of 1:22.365s. He has now been fastest in all of three practice sessions in preparation for qualifying, which starts at 21:50 GMT. Local boy John Hopkins was third fastest on the second Suzuki.

Marco Melandri, who has been on the pace in every session, was fourth fastest ahead of the Repsol Hondas of Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa. Colin Edwards was seventh ahead of an impressive Makoto Tamada on the Dunlop Yamaha. He was faster than the factory Yamaha of five-time world champion Valentino Rossi in ninth with Carlos Checa of Honda LCR rounding off the top ten. Loris Capirossi was a disappointing 14th on the second works Ducati.
