Stoner fastest in opening practice in Assen

Casey Stoner set the opening pace at this morning's first free practice session at the TT track in Assen. He was only a fraction ahead of Valentino Rossi. Right behind them was current championship defender Nicky Hayden.

The riders at Assen improved the fastest lap over and over again. In the end Casey Stoner completed the fastest lap with Valentino very close behind. While Nicky Hayden showed a good performance with his third fastest time it was Colin Edwards and Alex Hofmann close behind in fourth and fifth.

Toni Elias was the only rider who fell of his bike. After his crash he was taken to the medical centre.
