Exclusive interview Loris Capirossi

28 June 2007

This Saturday Loris Capirossi will be in action at the Dutch Grand Prix. The Italian Ducati rider has been doing well, but is only standing in the shadow of his young team-mate and championshipleader Casey Stoner. GPUpdate.net caught up with him for an exclusive interview.

How do you rate your season so far?
The first part of the season hasn't been very good but fortunately there are still enough opportunities to do well and to fix the damage.

How come your results compared to Casey Stoner are so different?
I didn't find the right feeling with my bike yet. At this level everything has to be perfect but at the moment things aren't just perfect yet for me. But I keep trying.

How is your relationship with Casey?
It is really good: he is a good friend. We work very well together on our bikes so the situation is fine.

Did you expect him to be this strong?
Yes. We have been testing a lot this winter and at the time I could already see he was really good so it didn't came as a surprise to me.

There are a lot of rumours on your position at Ducati…
It's a never ending story around the end of the first half of the season. It is a very important period as my contract ends at the end of the year. This is my fifth season at Ducati and I hope I can stay for another year. My relationship with Ducati is really good and I hope they will soon let me know what their plans are with me in the future.

Do you want them to come up with a clear answer in Assen?
Yes. I want an answer. I have talked a lot with Ducati and now I finally want to hear what their plans are.

So we can expect some tough talking between you and the team.
Yes, we will be sitting down with each other to talk about our contract.

It's been said Kawasaki offered you a contract.
Yes, but I also received offers from other teams. They are all very interesting and I think I will make a decision within the upcoming weeks.

What can we expect from Capirossi at this weekend's Dutch Grand Prix?
I'm not sure but lets hope things will finally go right this time!
