Stoner fastest in opening practice

Casey Stoner completed the fastest lap at Donington in Friday's first free practice session. The World Championship leader completed a lap in 1.43.749 and was slightly faster than Nicky Hayden. In his MotoGP debut Anthony West set the 8th fastest time on the clocks.

During a wet session Jacque's replacement at Kawasaki, West, showed a strong and confident performance. At the start of the session he was among the fastest riders even. Randy de Puniet was also able to show a strong performance. He set the third fastest time on the clocks with his Kawasaki.

Valentino Rossi took things easy and set the 7th time.
